Shannon has been a student of yoga since 2000, and a teacher of yoga since 2015. She remains a dedicated student, with a daily asana and meditation practice, as well as participating in as many classes, workshops, and learning opportunities as possible. Her wish is to share her knowledge and love of yoga with everyone, whether it be on retreat, in a studio, during teacher training, or through personal interaction. Shannon aims to simplify asana and the philosophy of yoga into manageable pieces for all practitioners, beginners and advanced yogis alike. She has had the good fortune of being the instructor for Belize Yoga in Belize, Portugal, and Italy, and looks forward to teaching wherever else Belize Yoga goes in the world.
Jessie Wigh, co-founder of Belize Yoga, certified yoga instructor since 2007
In 2008, Jessie and her husband moved to Belize to start their dream of offering yoga retreats in Belize and opening a yoga studio on the little island of Caye Caulker. For 15 years Jessie taught classes six days a week in the open air at her by-donation studio. Those years were magical, rustic, hot, wondrous, maddening, life-changing, real. They returned to the US in 2022 when their oldest child was ready for high school. Jessie currently leads retreats in Belize, Italy and the Azores (and has pre-scouted Slovenia--amazing!) and is the author of three children's books about Belize. As an artist, she enjoys many mediums, including watercolor, acrylic and found objects from the forest.
Jessie’s retreats are spiritual, healing, and just plain fun. Having taught almost exclusively outdoors, she finds that connection to environment helps to cultivate connection within. Jessie’s retreats are very much about the WHOLE body (physical, mental, spiritual, emotional). With a focus on the chakras, each day of the retreat will focus on a different area of the body and mind. The nature of travel–changing one’s physical location–sets the stage perfectly for beginning the bigger journey. Jessie truly feels like she is living the dream by sharing yoga and seeing how it can change the lives of retreat students.
