Dede Schreiner defines Yoga as a journey of self-discovery. She believes that love for others truly begins with love for self. She found a transformation of freedom thru Yoga after the birth of her second son, 13 years ago. Dede values the divine nature and uniqueness of each individual and inspires her students to embrace Yoga as a way of being; of looking within and finding peace in the flow of everyday life. Her classes are compassionately taught to provide deep access to the body ~ spirit connectivity and a journey to explore and release patterns that no longer serve. Dede uses the wisdom of Yoga to encourage her students toward simplicity; nutritious, mindful eating; an intentional pursuit of personal balance; and dedication to a practice of stillness. She helps them learn to manage the stress and busyness of their lives and develop a deeper awareness of living in the present moment…..all leading to a joyful path of spaciousness, contentment and radiant authenticity.
Mellisa Scaccia began her yoga journey almost 4 years ago. From the moment she walked into the yoga studio, she knew there was something wonderful that would come from her practice. She found friends, community and a safe haven on her yoga mat. Through these friendships blossomed the opportunity to attend a Belize Yoga retreat in early 2016. Her current co-lead, Dede Schreiner, presented her with the opportunity to take a leadership role in planning details and activities and assisting in bringing the UnBelizable yoga tribe together during this retreat. Being at a crossroad in her own life having left the corporate world to evaluate a new path and experiencing the reward of serving others through this retreat, she realized that yoga had even more to offer her and she had so much more to offer to yoga. Upon returning home, she immediately began her exploration into becoming a yoga teacher. She will complete her YTT certification in November 2017. She has an open, loving and listening approach to everything and everyone who comes her way. She is grateful and excited to share her very first teaching retreat with each and every one of you.
Begin with four nights in the Mountain Pine Ridge…a pine forest in the middle of the jungle
The first four nights you will stay at ultra-secluded Hidden Valley Inn. The cottages are spacious and pleasant, with high pitched ceilings, stocked fireplace, sitting area, private bath and Belizean hardwood detailing. Cottages are single, double or triple occupancy, with either a double bed or twins.
In addition to the inn’s pool and hot tub, there are 100+ miles of hiking and mountain biking trails that lead to eight large waterfalls. Yoga is practiced in three specially-built locations throughout the reserve, including one yoga platform overlooking Tiger Creek waterfall.
…then spend three nights on a private island.
The last three nights of the retreat are spent at Hatchet Caye, right on the beach. Each double occupancy guestroom has a spacious porch with gorgeous views of the Caribbean Sea. The rooms were feature Belizean hardwoods and local detailing.
Set on its own private island, while on Hatchet Caye you will feel like a castaway–a happy, catered-to castaway.
All meals are included, beginning with dinner on arrival day. You will feast on amazing food with excellent service while on our Caribbean Hideaways retreat. At both resorts, you will enjoy delicious homemade gourmet meals. Vegetarian, vegan and allergies can be easily accomodated.
Typical dinner menu at Hidden Valley Inn might include a first course choice of bruchetta with olive tapanade, lobster stew or walnut and blue cheese salad, main course choices of pecan-crusted snapper, curried chickpeas and spinach or filet mignon with mushrooms and red wine sauce. Their exquisite, daily-made desserts range from decadent chocolate eclairs to the more pious pear granita.
Meals at Hatchet Caye are casual gourmet. Breakfast might be fresh tropical fruits, followed by homemade tortillas, eggs and beans. Lunch options include freshly-caught lionfish and plantain fries. Dinner might be garden salad, creamy shrimp and basil pasta, and strawberry margarita pie. Your meal package includes water served with meals and juice, coffee and tea at breakfast. Drinking water is provided to you free of charge. Additional alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages may be purchased.
Included in your Caribbean Hideaways retreat:
Complementary free-time activities:
Caracol Mayan Ruins–Caracol is Belize’s most magnificent Mayan ruin (and one of the largest in the Maya world). In its prime it covered over 65 square miles and was inhabited by over 120,000 people. Lost to the rainforest for over 1,000 years, Caracol was rediscovered in 1937. Its largest temple, Caana, is over 140 feet tall, and remains the tallest man-made structure in Belize to this day.
Guided waterfall hike–Guided hike to enjoy the flora and fauna that Belize has in abundance–including many native birds not found elsewhere in North America. Hike along the Cascade Trail, traversing handbuilt bridges, and arriving at the magical and photo-perfect Butterfly Falls.
Snorkeling the second-largest Barrier Reef in the world–Belize’s reef is like a living art gallery. Living among the many beautiful corals are a myriad of tropical fish–Blue Tang, Angelfish, Butterfly Fish, Parrot Fish…there are simply too many to name. Snorkelers often see elusive beauties such as spotted eagle rays, sea turtles and the magnificent Queen Triggerfish.
Morning and evening outdoor yoga classes with gorgeous views. The locations we have selected for our Caribbean Hideaways retreat perfectly immerse you in the beauty of Belize.
While at Hidden Valley Inn, you will enjoy three different yoga palapas–each designed to provide you with a unique jungle sensory experience. At Hatchet Caye, the thatched yoga palapa is built out over the water, so that the gentle lapping Caribbean Sea and tropical breeze provide a calming backdrop. Situated to provide stunning sunrise and sunset views, you will love being fully immersed in beautiful surroundings.
